READING THE FLOW
Read it as cultural history, not a ranking. No single current is the 'correct' one.
1974—
Widely told as starting in 1974 at Yoshimuraya in Yokohama. Authorized direct shops and personal mentorship define this line — and the very word 'Iekei' settled around it.
MID 90s—
Including Rokkakuya which branched from Honmokuya, these are widely cited as defining early Iekei culture. The line is rich in apprenticeship history and contested accounts.
2000s—
Based in Chiba but deeply connected to SNS/YouTube culture, Oudouya has reshaped how Iekei is talked about. Includes spin-offs like Oudou-no-In.
BRAND-DRIVEN
Machida Shoten, IEKEI TOKYO and others — brand- and franchise-driven expansions. Treated on a separate axis from lineage discussions.
